How does Workplace Giving work?

For Employees

From little things big things grow. Your small, incremental donations multiply and become powerful over time. Even a small amount can provide the essentials for daily living in one of our homes that a young person needs, for example, milk, toiletries or school books.

Choose an amount to donate to Lighthouse as a pre-tax monthly donation from your salary. As the donation is made pre-tax, it actually costs you less than the amount we receive, and eliminates the need to collect, keep and claim receipts: You get an immediate, guaranteed tax deduction processed through your pay.

To get started, ask the HR or payroll team at your workplace about your options.

If your employer does not have a Workplace Giving Program and you’d still like to make regular donations that are life changing for homeless youth, then you can choose to become a Lighthouse Keeper.

For Businesses

Workplace Giving is a great way for businesses to support their employees and the community. When staff members have a common cause, it provides additional opportunities for them to be involved in activities that build teamwork, morale and engagement.

With senior leadership support, and a network of charity champions, Workplace Giving Programs (WPG) are rapidly becoming a positive employment feature.

Many employers also commit to matching employee donations or donating a set amount to employees’ charities of choice. Workplace Giving is simple to instigate and low cost for businesses to administer.

You can find out how to administer the process yourself via the Australian Taxation Office or use a specialist organisation such as Charities Aid Foundation (CAF).
